Policy/Procedure

Private Lessons

The South End Fine Arts Academy at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church provides weekly private piano, flute and voice lessons.  As the need arises, we will provide private lessons for other instruments.  All instruction will be adapted to the musical level of the student.  Private lessons will be in half-hour and one-hour blocks. Students interested in private lessons must be six years of age or older and must own or rent their instrument so that practicing can occur throughout the week.  The South End Fine Arts Academy does not provide instruments.

Group Classes

Kindermusik classes are offered at the South End Fine Arts Academy.  Each class will vary in age and time length. The schedule will be posted in Group Classes by August each year.

Registration

The Academy's academic year consists of two semesters of 18 lessons each. A student is registered for a specific lesson day and time and is financially responsible for one semester (or the remaining number of lessons in that semester if starting mid-semester). Students will be automatically registered for the next semester using the same payment option and method unless a formal notification of withdrawal is given to the director, Melissa Wisor, in writing prior to the first day of the next semester.

Please fill out the registration form. The student's lesson schedule will not be reserved until the registration form is filled out and fees are paid. Please note that all lessons and group classes are filled on first come, first serve basis. Once the registration form is received, you will be contacted to finalize the student's schedule.

Make-up Lessons

Students taking private lessons are allowed one (1) make-up lesson per semester for student cancellations or any lesson rescheduling. All make-up lessons must be scheduled with the instructor and cannot be rescheduled once confirmed.  For a missed lesson to be excused, the teacher must be contacted 24 hours in advance (except in emergency cases). Excused absences include (but are not limited to):

  • Illnesses
  • Vacations
  • Emergency situations (death, hospitalization, etc.)

Please make every effort to contact your teachers in advance. Because we are Christ-centered organization, we will extend “grace” to everyone. However, excuses such as (but not limited to) too much homework, lack of practicing during the previous week, being too tired, etc. are considered unexcused absences. The student (or parent) is required to pay the teachers for all unexcused absences and these lessons are not required to be made up.

Recitals

Each student will be strongly encouraged to be a part of an end-of-the-year recital to be held at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. All family members and friends are invited to attend.

Student Supervision

All children under the age of 12 must be escorted into the South End Fine Arts Academy by a responsible adult and remain with the responsible adult until the child is with the instructor for their lesson. For children 12 years and older, a responsible adult must drop-off and pick-up the student in a timely manner. The South End Fine Arts Academy is not responsible for the student before or after their assigned lesson time.

Lesson Protocol

It is the student’s responsibility to go to his or her lesson at the appropriately scheduled time. Parents are welcome to remain in the reception area during the student’s lesson. If a student is tardy, his or her lesson will not be extended past their originally scheduled lesson time.

Photo Release

Any photographs, audio, or videos of students or families at South End Fine Arts Academy or at any events may be used in promotional publications, social media pages and/or press releases. There will be no compensation for the release. However, parents may choose to exempt their students from media publications by notifying the Academy at the time of registration.
