Ministries in Detail:

Preschoolers are special to God and they are special to us! During this time in a child’s life, they are growing rapidly physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We recognize the stages in a child’s life and work to create a learning environment conducive to that. Each Sunday morning, dedicated and loving volunteers provide a safe place for your preschooler to learn about God, self, family, and the Bible. Through songs, books, art, and guided play, preschoolers will be introduced to the stories of the Bible. They will begin to think of Jesus as their friend and learn that God cares for them and loves them.

On Wednesday nights, preschoolers age three and older are invited to attend Mission Friends. Mission Friends offers preschoolers an introduction to Baptist missionaries around the world. Preschoolers learn about where missionaries live and work and about how they tell people about Jesus. Preschoolers also learn that they can help others, pray for others and tell others about Jesus. Child care for two’s and under is provided to allow you the opportunity to attend Bible study or another ministry opportunity.

During the worship service, preschoolers are invited to remain in their Sunday school classroom while their parents attend worship. Older preschoolers often attend the first part of worship with their worship care teachers in order to allow them an opportunity to experience worship through music and the children’s moment. Preschool parents and other willing volunteers from within the congregation participate in a rotation in order to staff this vital ministry of our church.
Some of our annual events include a Back to School party, Trunk or Treat, retreats for school age children, Crop Walk, Christmas Party, Vacation Bible School, Camp Ridgecrest, and much more!

At Pritchard, our main objective in ministry to children is to create a safe environment in which children are accepted and respected, where they are encouraged to explore questions, encounter God, and create relationships with each other and with adult leaders.

The center component of our children’s ministry is Sunday school. Each week, children are introduced to Bible stories through drama, games, art, and round table discussion. Our team of volunteers is committed to helping your child meet God, hear His stories, and discover a personal relationship that they can have with Jesus themselves.

Understanding missions, and participating in mission work, is important for children to experience. We do this through our Wednesday night mission program, GA’s and RA’s. Girls in Action (GA’s) and Royal Ambassadors (RA’s) are opportunities for boys and girls to learn more about missionaries near and far, and to participate in mission work themselves.  We believe that children are a vital part of our church and that includes their role in worship both as participants and leaders. Children are invited to pick up a special order of worship as they enter worship with their parents. They are also invited forward for a special children’s moment each Sunday. On Wednesday nights in choir, the children learn more about worship through music and often have opportunities to lead the congregation in worship through a choral piece.

Older children are invited to participate in worship leadership as an acolyte. The word acolyte is taken from an ancient Greek word meaning companion, attendant, or helper. In our church, acolytes symbolize the light of Christ by lighting the candles on the altar at the start of worship.

The Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church Youth group offers a safe space for youth, in community with one another, to build lasting friendships, explore the Christian faith, encounter God in new ways, and experience the living God in the world around us through heart, soul, mind and strength.  Our desire is to see youth critically engage the Christian faith and experience God in deeper and more passionate ways with the hope of forming faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

We believe that it is not enough to simply profess faith in Christ.  AS part of our desire to be faithful Christians, we desire to live lives pleasing to God in the name of Christ.  As Luke 10:27 says, we must love God and live lives pleasing to God with all parts of ourselves, not just some.  WE desire to be as complete and whole and perfect as we can by trying to follow the will of God as revealed through Christ, in the Scriptures, Christian tradition, and Christian practices.  And we invite you to join us on this journey.

Our group is made up of students in the 6th-12th grades who meet weekly on Sundays and Wednesdays for Bible Study opportunities.  We also meet for various monthly fellowship opportunities and retreats throughout the year.  One of our largest annual events is the Camp Ridgecrest experience at the end of the summer.

As part of the PMBC Youth Ministry, we like to ensure that our students come to know how important service is to a life of following Christ.  Each year we focus on various mission efforts, usually hands-on in nature, and we always encourage our students to participate.  We are currently planning a trip to Honduras at the end of June, which will be unforgettable for those who attend.  We also partner with organizations like the Urban Ministry Center throughout the year in an effort to work to benefit our city and our communities.

We have some very gifted teens that are involved in our Youth Choir and our Orchestra.  We have also recently started an interpretive movement group called “Speechless” that leads in worship at different times throughout the year.  They are currently working on a stirring piece to present in our Easter Sunday service.  If your sons are interested in using their talents in any of these ways, we would certainly enjoy having them.

We are most proud of our newly renovated youth area called The Loft.  We have only been meeting in this space for a few months, but our students seem to love it.  This was an eight month undertaking that was complete almost entirely by volunteers within the church.  It shows how invested we are in our teens.  We have a large meeting room called the Theater, a Lounge where the students can chat or study, a Coffee Shop where we have snacks each time we meet, and a Game Room with plenty of fun for everyone.  The Loft is fully updated technologically with excellent TVs and wireless internet.
Come join us on the journey.

At Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, we encourage our adults to become fully integrated into each of the different ministry areas in our congregation.  Adults are encouraged to volunteer with our Children and Youth, where they can assist in the spiritual development of the youngest generations of our church.  They are also encouraged to take full advantage of opportunities to participate in their own spiritual development through Bible Study, worship, and mission work.

Some of our Sunday Bible Study classes are set up according to age or gender, while others consist of representatives from across the congregation.  Some of our facilitators use standard Baptist literature, while others use small group studies from a variety of Christian authors.
