The Pritchard Child Development Center is a full-time preschool program, operating year-round to meet the care and early education needs of young children of working parents.

We operate as a faith based child care and education center in the state of North Carolina, following the North Carolina General Statutes and the Child Day Care Standards, Department of Human Resources. Compliance is monitored by periodic visits from a state licensing consultant, a sanitation department representative, and a fire inspector with the Charlotte Fire Department.

We are located in Charlotte’s historic South End, convenient to uptown workplaces as well as medical centers. Our center operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. More information about our policies and tuition can be found in the Parent Handbook, found at the bottom of this page.

The Pritchard CDC follows the highest voluntary enhanced classroom staff to child ratios.  These ratios are below:

Infants (under 1 yr)    1:4
Toddlers (1-2 yrs)      1:5
Two (2-3 yrs)            1:8
Threes (3-4 yrs)        1:9
Pre-K (4-5 yrs)          1:11

Group tours of the center are conducted on the second Friday of every month at noon. Tours last 20-30 minutes and do not require a reservation to attend. Simply ring the bell outside the center and someone will greet you. Because tours can be disruptive to our classes, especially younger age groups, we typically do not offer tours at other times except for extreme situations.

Our waitlist is first come, first serve with active church members and current families taking priority. We typically have an extensive waitlist for most age groups. Children are pulled from our waitlist when a current family withdraws from our program or when the children transition to the next age group, usually every August. Because of this, we are typically unable to project probable enrollment dates for most age groups.

There is a $100 non-refundable fee (per family) to join our waitlist and space is not guaranteed. Families are strongly encouraged to communicate directly with the CDC Office prior to joining the waitlist in order to be given more information regarding the likelihood of space coming available will be given prior to receipt of the fee. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid when registering.

Our Philosophy

“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. . . After taking them in His arms, He laid His hands on them and blessed them.’” Mark 10:14

At Pritchard Child Development Center, you will find little children running, climbing, and laughing on our playground under the watchful care of our committed teaching team made up of teachers who laugh with, protect, and encourage the children to reach just a little further.

Our youngest infants can grow to rising kindergartners in our happy, secure facility, as a part of our Pritchard family. They will come to think of it as their home away from home. Together with their families, we fill the early childhood years with foundations for full and successful lives.

For I know the plans I have for you. . . plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
— Jeremiah 29:11

Infants are lovingly cared for, building that trust and security so essential for life. Toddlers have lots of room to learn to walk, run, and climb as they develop their motor skills as well as opportunities for hearing and using language. Twos are learning how to interact with their friends, becoming little social members of the world. Threes are full of enthusiasm, moving from one fantastic learning activity to another.

Our four and five year olds are settling down, more interested in structure and what is expected of them by the world around them. This is another pivotal step toward that beginning of kindergarten and the world beyond. It is during this time that what they have been taught all comes together with listening skills, self help skills, motor skills, language skills, social skills, love of learning, self discipline and the security they need to enter “big school”.

Our teaching team seeks to know and understand each child as God has created him or her, and to guide them at their particular level of development. Above all this, we teach the children that they are unique in God’s eyes, that He loves them and has a wonderful plan for each one.

Our Team

We are pleased with the longevity of our lead teachers, many of whom have been with us for more than 10 years. All of our lead teachers have a NC Early Childhood Education Credential as well as additional college studies in Early Childhood Education. We also encourage all lead teachers to have or be pursuing associate degrees in Early Childhood Education. The center assists with scholarships and release time for educational purposes.

All staff members attend training opportunities in health and emergency care, CPR and first aid, sanitation, and appropriate teaching methods. All staff members have background checks and physical examinations.

Our church chef plans and prepares nutritious meals and snacks on site.

Family Information

"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Pritchard CDC is not too big and not too small, but “just right.”  “Just right” to feel like family, that is. Most of our families have had two (or more!) children in our program. We love getting to know each family and feel like extended family members.

Family social events are planned throughout the year, including a Christmas Breakfast and a Spring Family Picnic. We have an informal parent group that helps by enlisting class moms/dads, planning fundraisers, and honoring our staff through various appreciation events.

The Day Care will host Scholastic Book Fair one time a year.  This is a special time for families to find several new books for their children or a friend.  The staff will also take this opportunity to create wish list of books they would like to have in their classrooms and children’s library.

Our curriculum provides a framework on which teachers can build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52).

A child’s growth and development is viewed as a process, not an event. Development begins when the child is conceived and continues throughout life. Our curriculum provides a range of activities designed to meet the needs of each child and their level of development along the growth continuum. It provides guidance and activities to help each child develop fundamental skills appropriate for his or her stage of development.

Using The Creative Curriculum approach, we balance both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning, with an emphasis on responding to children’s learning styles and building on their strengths. Classroom studies are chosen based on the interests of the children.

For all of our children, we use activities to build a foundation for Christian faith. We plan a program that allows children to see adults modeling Christianity, relate Bible stories and Bible thoughts/verses to their daily activities, and develop spiritual understandings that are appropriate for their developmental level of mental, emotional and social growth.

Enrichment programs are offered for preschoolers, including weekly Jump Bunch (the parents pay a fee to the Jump Bunch Company), monthly Chapel with one of our ministers, weekly music class for our twos, threes, fours, and fives, and a weekly Spanish class for our threes, fours and fives.

Field trips to expand on classroom studies are planned periodically for our three year old classes and older. We often travel to Children's Theater, ImaginOn, Pumpkin Patch, Nature Museum, and other places of interest.
